#017 - Shara Dillon & Ed Gill
In this episode I meet up once again with Ed Gill in London, and this time we are joined by Shara Dillon. Ed has been a previous guest on the podcast, and no doubt will feature again sometime soon, so be sure to check out the previous episode we recorded with him and Jon Beardmore here.
We bumped into Ed in the historic city of Bukhara in Uzbekistan in 2015, when he was heading to Australia from the UK by motorbike. His journey took him and his Yamaha Tenere on a real adventure through Central Asia.
Shara Dillon likes to sink her teeth into a challenge, she is an incredibly inspirational person who amongst her amazing achievements has recently become the first women to kayak the longest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Tanganyika. She also travelled solo in her Toyota Landcruiser from the UK to South Africa. Her trip, like many, wasn’t straightforward. In this inspiring conversation with Shara and Ed, we discuss overcoming major obstacles before you’ve even left, pre-conceived notions about the African continent, her resilience and attitude to overcoming the inevitable problems that you are faced with when attempting adventures like this and Shara’s desire to see what Africa had to offer in the way of landscape, wildlife and culture.
